Women in America
who are diligently trying to understand and protect their health
have been struggling with mixed messages regarding Estrogen
replacement for the past decade.
Naturopathic Physicians
and Nutritionists have recognized the dangers of “Estrogen
Dominance” as opposed to a need for more for quite some time
and are generally reluctant to recommend a pharmaceutical “fix” for
women who are transitioning this stage of life. Recent “news” regarding the dangers of HRT has
been met with shock and fear by many who followed their
doctor’s advice and took
Premarin, Prempro and other Estrogen replacements.
Practitioners in the
Holistic Healing field supported the use of “weaker” plant estrogens
or estrogen precursors, such as Black Cohosh, Dong Quai, Vitex
(Chasteberry) and other well-studied herbs.
Soy has had a long
ride on the health food gravy train.
Today, there is
considerable question regarding the use of any form of estrogen
supplementation for most women, since the core of the problems
during Menopause appears to be TOO MUCH
estrogen - NOT, too little.
Dr. John Lee, a retired physician from Mill
Valley, CA, has been leading the march
against this erroneous thinking for over a decade.
Dr. Lee states that
the symptoms which occur at this time of life are not a normal part
of aging.
They are a result of
years of estrogen accumulation in our bodies from exposure to
petrochemical sources.
We are not told the entire story - that
Estrogen is not a single substance. It is a Class of substances.
Just are
there is Cane Sugar, Molasses, Glycogen, Honey, Inositol and
Glycogen (all forms of Sugar) - some are safer and more nourishing
than others.
Estrogens are found in Pesticides (in food and
in our air), plastic wrap, carpeting,
meats (a Norplant ä device is implanted in animals to make them fatter faster, so they
will bring a better price at slaughter - to name only a few
sources.
Since women have many
more Estrogen Receptors, there is more storage capacity than for
men.
Men have estrogen
receptors, but require fewer than women, since they do not have to
form babies. Nevertheless, these petrochemical estrogens are
affecting men, too. Estrogen’s job in making a baby is to proliferate
cells. This cell replication is part of the issue with cancers of
any kind.
In order to be in
balance, Dr. Lee says that women need to have ten times the Progesterone to Estrogen
in order to be in basic healthy balance. Progesterone is the other
key hormone during menopause and prior to this time of life. Most women today
have the opposite situation - ten times the estrogen to
progesterone.
When we replace
these hormones in synthetic form, a couple of problems arise.
First, the
molecule of estrogen or progesterone is not an identical match to
the one that your body makes, so it will not be utilized in
exactly the same way.
Secondly, the
ratio of Estrogen to Progesterone can never be successfully
determined because the dosages are established based blood work
which is not where the active hormones reside.
All hormone activity takes place in Fat Cells.
Blood is a water-based medium which is only vaguely
indicative of what is going on in the ___.
After making these general assumptions it is
only fair to report that studies have shown that 93% of women
possess many more estrogen receptors than Progesterone. Seven % of
women in America have many more estrogen
receptors, making replacement especially dangerous.
This being said, women
only have receptors (like a lock and key)
for 3 types of estrogen, leaving the levels of the other 490-some unknown. Our
current technology can only test for these three forms - estriol,
esterase and estradiol. So, Even if your levels appear low on
blood and saliva tests, chances are, they are not.
Because of these facts, Dr. Lee feels that any
form of additional estrogen (including Soy, estrogenic herbs, etc.)
should be very carefully considered. This is
because “estrogen is estrogen is estrogen”.
The addition of Progesterone in synthetic
(drug) form makes the prospect for cancers even more concerning.
Studies reported from John’s Hopkins University over a 15 year
period showed that women who were taking nothing for menopausal
symptoms had the lowest numbers of breast cancer. Those on estrogen
only had a 1% per year increase and those on both Estrogen and
Progesterone resulted in an 8% per year increase in breast cancer.
Translated, this means that
in 5 years you are 40% more likely to develop the disease and in 15
years (the standard recommended length of time) your chances are
140% greater.
So - WHAT IS THE
ANSWER
To This
Dilemma?
MACA ROOT
!
This plant has not only estrogen-tonic properties, but also
contains nutritional support for all of the endocrine glands (organs
which make these and other hormones).
Rather than Replacing these hormones, this well
known plant of the Andes in Peru Nourishes ALL of the endocrine
organs supplying the nourishment they need to manufacture the right
balance of hormones for each woman.
Maca, which grows at a rarefied 14,000 feet has a recorded history of many centuries providing energy,
fertility, impotence, strength and longevity.
A particularly excellent product is Maca Manna
by Good For You America. It combines this wonderful herb with green
foods, beets, _______, _____, ______,
making it better than even the best multiple vitamins.
In this way, there is never “too much” of
either Estrogen or Progesterone. You body converts the amounts
needed on a daily basis, bringing the entire hormonal system into
balance without dangerous side effects.
Maca is also made in chewable tablets which can
be carried in your pocket or purse. They taste great and are
easy to fit into a busy lifestyle.
It is never wise to take chances with your
health. In the important area of female hormonal balance, there is a
perfect answer which has been proven over centuries of use and is
available today for your personal benefit.
Since Science cannot
yet tell us how to proceed safely, maybe it is time to trust
Nature.
Your body knows how to manage any health
imbalance. It just need the right tools
to work with!
